FOLIAGE: THE COLOURS OF AUTUMN IN VENICE MAINLAND
Maybe few people know that, in Mestre, just outside the city centre of Venice
you can have a walk through over 200 hectares of wood, surrounded by charming naturalistic habitats and, as autumn comes, admire the sight of the foliage when leaves change their colour
The Carpenedo wood, a natural area protected for the quality and rarity of its environments, is one of the most beautiful places to discover
The wood is open to the public every Sunday throughout October, until 25th October 2020
The entrance, from 10 am to 6 pm, is free, and a maximum of 30 people are allowed simultaneously
You should not miss the chance to discover this ancient wood that can be visited on public holidays in spring and autumn
The ten-hectare area is crossed by pedestrian paths from which you can enjoy various natural environments, from the historical wood of oaks and hornbeams, a remain of the ancient wood that once covered the whole Venetian hinterland, to the meadows and wet areas
A few steps it can also be visited
but only every first Sunday of the month
the Carpenedo Fort
part of that “entrenched field of Mestre” set up at the beginning of the 1900s as a bulwark of the ancient city …
but this is another story …
