The “Spritz” has now become a classic of the Italian aperitif
but in its most typical version it can only be tasted in Venice
where it originated in the nineteenth century, when Veneto was under Habsburg rule
and Austrian soldiers and diplomats used to add water to local wines, to mitigate their alcohol content.
Today in the historic Bacari of the Historic center, Spritz is a quickly prepared popular cocktail based on prosecco, bitters and carbonated water
it is decorated with an orange slice and served with an olive skewered in the toothpick which must be consumed first in order to prepare the palate
The Spritz is an aperitif to be sipped all year round strictly in company in the very popular Venetian Bacari but especially in summer
it takes on the most usual use, namely the thirst-quenching one
Be careful though!
which in the “strong” version can exceed twenty degrees
and this is why often the most attentive hosts always accompany it with the typical Venetian Cichetti …
but that’s another story
which we will tell later
